My Daughter had same relationship with her Father and he walked out when she was 18 months, he came and went, but I always reminded her she had me and there are some people that have no one, so I love her enough for two. I cannot imagine the pain that others leave when a parent openly chooses to leave. I do recognize that sometimes they have stuff going on in their life that they need to work out, and that's what sometimes causes them to leave in the first place... But, to just... walk away. :(
My mom never left physically, but her mind has been gone in some ways for many years, and only getting worse.... It is not easy, even in this regard, but I am grateful that she is still physically present. What's going on with her mind causes my Dad, sister, and I a great deal of stress, anxiety, pain, etc. This situation is worse when people start believing the things that she says, in her state of paranoia, etc. Even worse still is that whatever is going on with her mind, has affected her in such a way that she doesn't recognize that she needs help. She is sort of getting that help, but with covid right now, it's made getting that help significantly more difficult....
This song reflects on the scars that I have on my heart because of the situation with my mother... not in the same way as to the meaning of the song, but I can relate nonetheless.
I can't decide what is worse... losing a parent to death, losing a parent because of their choice to leave, or losing a parent to the mental suffering that is occurring to them (be it treatable or not).
Life is not easy. :(
